Antarctopelta(meaning “Antarctic Shield”) is a genus of Nodosaurid from the Late Cretaceous of Antarctica, hence its name. It was described in 2006 by Salgado and Gasparini, with the type species being A. oliveroi. It has an estimated length of about 13 feet, or 4 meters. Even though it was described in 2006, it was discovered about20 years prior, in 1986. So, although it was the first dinosaur from Antarctica that was discovered, it was the second to be described and named, after Cryolophosaurus.
